The role our teeth and smile play in our personal aesthetic is extremely important and not something to be overlooked. Not all Canadians are fortunate enough to have a healthy, beautiful smile their entire lives. Poor hygiene, genetics, and accidents can all subtract from a smile’s natural beauty. And, when teeth are damaged, chipped, or broken, it’s common for someone to feel self-conscious about their smile. Many Canadians with dental trauma even wonder if their teeth and smile will ever be the same again. But take a deep breath and stop worrying! With a single trip to our clinic, we can have your smile looking good as new.
What is a CEREC Machine?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Confused? Well to put it simply, this machine allows for the restoration of damaged teeth through the use of dental impressions in just one appointment. Guided by your dentist, the CEREC Machine takes pictures which are then constructed into a 3D image using a computer. This 3D model can then be used by your dentist to create your dental restoration which is printed right here at our clinic. The whole procedure can be done in a single appointment.
How Does CEREC Work?
The first step is creating a dental impression of the broken tooth or teeth. This impression is created by our CEREC machine using cameras. A computer combines the pictures together to form a 3D virtual model of your mouth and teeth. Your dentist then chooses a ceramic block that perfectly matches the colour and shade of your teeth and places the block into a milling machine. The machine uses the ceramic block and your 3D model to create your unique restoration within minutes. Your dentist then secures the restoration in place, and you get to enjoy the rest of your day with a renewed, beautiful smile.
How Long Does the Restoration Take?
Just one appointment! Thanks to our new CEREC machine, impressions can be created quickly and efficiently. Once these are obtained and a suitable ceramic is found, it only takes 10-20 minutes to create the restoration. Our dentist will examine your restoration and, if it’s perfect, they will install it for you. After that you are free to return to work or go home.
